Experimental verification of a 3D-reconstruction pipeline for maritime objects
The safety and security of critical infrastructures is an essential foundation for the economic prosperity and stability of governments and societies. The research groups of the Department of Maritime Security Technologies are dedicated to solving a wide range of technological issues required for the implementation and testing of innovative system concepts for the protection of maritime infrastructures. These include the development and demonstration of novel instruments and system functions that are capable of recording, evaluating and visualising the protection status of maritime infrastructures in real time and in a largely automated manner. One focus of the Methods and Processing Group is the processing and analysis of image data from optical cameras for the exploration of maritime regions to detect and assess the situation above water. As part of your master thesis, you will develop an experimental setup for testing an existing, simulation-based 3D-reconstruction pipeline for maritime objects. In cooperation with the team you will implement a calibrated, virtual version of the experimental setup and use it to verify experimental data. Core aspects are the quantitative analysis of the performance of the 3D-reconstruction pipeline in a physical environment and identification of areas for further development. The physical simulation of weather and lighting as well as optimization of stereoscopic camera parameters are also required. The main tasks will be:
The scientific results of your master thesis will have the possibility to be followed by a publication in a conference or journal.
Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development.
