A large proportion of the emissions are caused by burning fossil fuels to generate process heat. Therefore, the institute is developing high-temperature heat pumps that can generate process heat of up to 350°C from electricity. The Cottbus Brayton heat pump (CoBra) has been in operation since May 2024. In the course of 2024, various tests will be carried out to analyze the operating range of the system. The system will also be used to test various control concepts. Around 100 measured values such as temperatures, pressures, mass flows and control variables (valve position, motor speed) are recorded during operation.
Knowledge transfer:
In the course of this work, the student is confronted in detail with the principals of thermodynamic cycle processes and turbo components. Experimental work is carried out on a research plant, whereby knowledge in the field of measurement and sensor technology, plant control and data evaluation is transferred.
