We, the BMW group, offer you an intersting master thesis in the area of Spatial context of traffic participants.

 

In the context of driver assistance and autonomous driving functions, environment detection needs to assess the relevance of every detected traffic participant with respect to the current situation and driving task so that appropriate actions can be derived for the ego car.

 

What awaits you?

  • In the first place, the relevance of other objects is based on their own, intrinsic properties such as position, geometry, kinematics or object class.

  • With this project suitable to be conducted in the context of a master thesis, also the spatial context of each object - given by its relation to (all) other objects in the scene as well as the surrounding static features of the current environment - shall also be considered when deciding for its relevance.

  • This will result in a more robust determination of object relevance and will finally help to reduce the number of false reactions of the ego vehicle to actually irrelevant objects.

 

What should you bring along?

  • University degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field of study.
  • Knowledge in data processing (e.g. graphical models, data fusion, probabilistic state estimation, clustering, association).
  • Practical experience in software development, especially C++ and/or Python programming skills.
  • Experience with developing real-time autonomous systems is a plus.
  • Business-fluent English.
