    Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) is responsible for developing world class electrical technologies and products, as well as the associated integrated power generation and propulsion turnkey systems. RRE is rapidly extending the company's capability in the electrical domain and will play an increasingly important role in all our businesses as we move forward towards our Net Zero goal.

    Your role will involve working on novel engineering concepts and developing strategies for introducing new technologies and products to augment Rolls-Royce’s existing portfolio.

    This position offers exciting challenges and opportunities for an individual with relevant qualifications, and forms part of the exciting and rapid expansion of the company-wide electrical engineering activities.     Key Accountabilities

    • Design, analyze and optimization of design solutions of electrical motor parts, complex assemblies and whole integrated electrical propulsion systems with highest power density

    • Conducting component life assessments under consideration of complex static and dynamic load profiles, including multi-disciplinary coupling effects (e.g., thermal, electromagnetically)

    • Create test plans and support verification activities (e.g. static, modal and fatigue tests) throughout the whole development process from prototype to product level

    • Plan and co-ordinate R&D activities with key universities and suppliers

    • Create design and manufacturing specification in strong collaboration with manufacturing specialists and external suppliers

    • Work based on an aerospace quality management system and conduct regular design reviews to drive the product safety, manufacturability and robustness


    • Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or similar professional experience

    • Long experience in the design and proof of aerospace structures

    • Strong analytic background in engineering mechanics, machine dynamics and rotating electric machines

    • Expert skills in calculation and simulation (e.g. Simcenter) of rotating components under consideration of static, dynamic and multi-disciplinary conditions

    • Experience in system engineering and the use of requirement management tools (Polarion appreciated)

    • Appreciation of aerospace standards such as DO-160 and ARP4754A as well as acceptable means of compliance and special compliance methods

    • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks

    • Desire to work in an interdisciplinary and agile team to drive innovative design solutions

    • Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation
