    At the Centre for Lightweight-Production-Technology in Stade, the department of Composite Process Technology is concerned, among other things, with highly productive fiberplacement processes for large-scale structural components. The research platform GroFi (Large Fiber Placement Plant) is a highly flexible multi-robot system for the automated production of fiber composite components on a real scale. The objective is a significant increase in both the effectiveness and the efficiency of the manufacturing process.

    An important aspect for the prediction of production-related defects in the fiberplacement process is the knowledge of the adhesive force of the material to be processed to the substrate. In addition to the material used, this also depends on the process parameters applied. In a previous work, a model approach was therefore developed which depicts the relationship of the resulting adhesion force as a function of the process parameters for dry fibermaterials.

    Within the scope of the present work, the elaborated model approach is to be validated by extensive tests andadapted if necessary.

    You will process the following tasks:

    • familiarisation with the topic of automated fiberplacement processes
    • familiarisation with the topic of the existing model approach as well as the corresponding test procedure
    • elaboration of influencing material parameters
    • carrying out extensive tests for model validation
    • if necessary, modification of the model approach on the basis of the test results

    It is possible to combine your thesis with an internship. The scope of the thesis can be adjusted if necessary.

    • (Master) student in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, material science or a similar field of study
    • basic knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of fiber composites is an advantage
    • analytical skills and a structured and independent way of working
    • very good written and spoken knowledge of German and/or English
