Manager Handling (M/F) Nairobi (Kenya) The Manager Handling ensures safety, security and quality of all warehouse and aircraft handling activity in his/her geographical area. S/he leads the local handling team and steers the external handling providers on a daily level. S/he is responsible for achieving the local handling targets (qualitative and quantitative) as defined by the Head of Sales and Handling, and in accordance with the global Lufthansa Cargo AG handling framework (Lufthansa Cargo AG production system, Cargo Handling Manual, Ground Operations Manual and standards). S/he is responsible for handling cost and budgets Within the targets set by the Head of Sales and Handling, s/he is responsible for: Warehouse and Aircraft Handling: Management of all A/C and WH handling processes at the stations in the geographical area in compliance with all relevant directives (safety, security, legal requirements, processes, quality, maintenance of qualifications and skills, etcetera) Achievement of financial and non-financial handling Key Performance Indicators, including performance analysis and definition of corrective action in case of deviations Operational steering of own staff as well as activity of service providers Liaison with Lufthansa Cargo AG handled other carriers, where applicable, to service their needs and relay these to staff Contribution to Lufthansa Cargo AG Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) activity from the local perspective. Where applicable, participation in negotiations on external handling services as part of the relevant “procurement team” on the basis of Lufthansa Cargo AG’s production strategy Responsibility for organizing and opening new stations in the geographical area according to related Lufthansa Cargo AG standard Implementation of central process directives, respectively adaption of local adjustments within the prescribed framework Implementation of regional or local measures meant for the support of the worldwide Handling strategy. Assures continuous process improvements within export and import cargo services in the geographical area Close cooperation with Lufthansa Cargo AG’s Regional and central handling organization to ensure a seamless worldwide Lufthansa Cargo AG production system Adheres to Quality Manual procedures, takes responsibility for the quality system, and promotes a preventative culture using the tools provided Close contact to the local sales team in order to understand customer requirements and collaborate on high customer satisfaction Management of necessary interfaces with airport, customs and other relevant external authorities Where applicable, oversees the building/facility maintenance as well as contractual agreements for equipment etcetera Observance of relevant compliance directives by the handling team Participation in negotiations of contracts/agreements for aircraft handling like SGHA etcetera Ensures quality and a SMS reporting on local level btw station and GHA as well as to Headquarter Where applicable, execution of L-Level responsibilities People Management: Disciplinary leadership of the local handling team Manages, encourages, guides and evaluates his/her team members, this includes agency staff contracted by Lufthansa Cargo AG Promotes and ensures people development Plans and manages economical utilization of all manpower to maintain defined service standards Performs all other duties assigned or delegated by superiors Regional Specifics: Transformation of team into a new team structure Assist in local operation where necessary Your profile High school diploma/GED desirable College degree/vocational training: Bachelor desirable Technical competencies: Analytical skills - Uses intuition and experience to complement data Business sense - Understands business implications of decisions; Displays orientation to profitability; Demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; Aligns work with strategic goals Cost consciousness - Conserves organizational resources Detail oriented - Demonstrates attention to detail Innovation - Displays original thinking and creativity; Generates suggestions for improving work; Develops innovative approaches and ideas; Presents ideas and information in a manner that gets other’s attention Communication skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
