Risk Senior Specialist - Sustainability Oversight (f/m/x)

Job ID:R0392157 Full/Part-Time: Full-time
Regular/Temporary: Regular Listed: 2025-08-13
Location: Berlin

Position Overview

About the area

Non-Financial Risk Management (NFRM), as an independent "2nd Line of Defense" (2LoD) function, works with the business and infrastructure sectors ("1st Line of Defense") (1LoD) to manage the non-financial risks (i.e. operational and reputational risks) of the bank within the scope of the group-wide risk appetite and to improve the control environment.

The ‘NFRM Reputational Risk including Sustainability Oversight’ department within the 2LoD is responsible for, among other things, providing independent, risk-focused oversight of specific sustainability-related activities within the bank. It examines and supervises Environmental and Social ("ES") issues in the context of the broader oversight of the 1LoD ‘E’ and ‘S’ processes and controls. This includes both ‘E’ and ‘S’ issues that primarily present inherent Reputational Risk in frameworks, transactions and products classified under the "sustainable finance" umbrella throughout the bank. The department continuously seeks to provide risk-specific oversight and to apply risk management principles towards 1LoD subject-matter experts.

Your key responsibilities

  • Cooperation in the development of the NFRM Reputational Risk management strategy for 2LoD monitoring of ES topics, in particular transactions and clients, to ensure a robust 2LoD review and challenge is present and consistent.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (‘SME’) in monitoring specific functions related to ‘ES’ matters regarding existing or prospective client relationships, as well as vendors. This requires detailed decisions, presentations of reputational risk issues at management level and coordination of those involved in these topics.

  • Act as a central contact in NFRM for stakeholders in ES transactions and client reviews incl. appropriate advice on risk management issues.

  • Actively follow policy and market developments in detail to ensure adequate monitoring of ESG matters, including related to risk appetite.

  • Support for the Germany Reputational Risk Committee Secretary.

  • Various project-related work as the department’s strategy and mandate evolve.

Your skills and experience

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in the financial sector with similar analysis and risk roles in the ESG space.

  • Good knowledge of regulatory guidance and the main issues in the market regarding ESG

  • Able to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders within a complex organization and to quickly build strong working relationships with different functions

  • Capable of articulating complex topics to senior management clearly and concisely

  • Very good knowledge of English (German would also be preferred)
