Senior Electromagnetic Design Engineer Indianapolis Vollzeit JR6081106 Stellenbeschreibung Senior Electromagnetic Design Engineer Indianapolis, IN As our Senior Electromagnetic Design Engineer Rolls-Royce Electrical – United States (RRE-US), you’ll play an integral role within RRE by focusing on the delivery of multiple applied Research and Development (R&D) projects and product development for technologies across our many business areas to include Aerospace, Marine and Power Systems. You’ll work to provide electronics (power and controls) expertise and leadership to the US team to ensure delivery of fully-compliant and robust technical solutions while adhering to all safety requirements in accordance with company procedures. This is an exciting, newly created opportunity where you will be able to contribute both in the technical execution of programs, but also be able to have a positive impact in helping to define our overall global implementation of best practices practices and procedures for electromagnetic design; coordinating across all RRE sites and with other Rolls-Royce businesses. This role requires in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in fundamental electrical machine and the development of electronical machine architectures, associated computer models, and key electrical equipment. Excellent people leadership, organizational & communication skills are vital as the role will require leading a team working on multiple projects simultaneously, and involve communicating across, upwards and downwards within the global organization. Key Accountabilities: The successful candidate will lead and functionally manage electrical machine and mechanical integration team. Responsibilities will include: setting performance objectives aligned with workload, performing performance evaluations, and supporting team training and development; as well as supporting the Heads of Competence (Electromagnetic, Mechanical Design, Structure Mechanics and Thermodynamic) with the creation of suitable tools, models, design guidelines, methods & ways of working as part of the global community of excellence (CoE). The selected candidate will also work with the Head of Product Development and Head of Electrical Machine on the development of strategic direction for the electrical machines’ technologies and implementation with the various program leads. A successful candidate will need to have a solid foundation and understanding of end-to-end requirements definition, system design, implementation and validation of steady-state, dynamic and transient electrical machine models, and safety and reliability principles. By leading and growing the team , there will be great opportunity to shape the solutions for electrical power systems within RRE with the following key accountabilities: Lead the electromagnetic and machine integration US team. As part of this role you will be expected to interface across several stakeholders both internally and externally within the company to extract and understand technical requirements and work alongside stakeholders to document potential solutions which can be used to serve business and customer needs. As part of a growing team, you will be exploring and developing new engineering practices, tools, and design guidelines within global community of practice . Deliver clear understanding of potential business and technical architectures and solutions. Lead the electromagnetic and machine integration US Team through the entire product lifecycle. Be the focal point for electromagnetic and machine integration engineering expertise within project(s). Facilitate stakeholder requirements discussions that include customer, business, and technical teams to ensure that the requirements define the need and not the solution. Ensure robust understanding of electromagnetic and machine integration requirements and associated design as applicable to a propulsion system. Support an appropriate Enterprise/System architecture solution which serves both business and technical needs. Ensure requirements are robustly validated and requirement maturity/risks understood and communicated to the project team. Represent Rolls-Royce as required on specific customer and partner working groups related to the project. Rolls-Royce is a Military Friendly Employer. Basic Requirements: Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering with 5+ years experience in electronics (power & controls) design for Aerospace and/or Marine and/or Renewables and/or Automotive and/or Mining and/or similar industries, OR Masters Degree in electrical engineering with 3+ years experience in electronics (power & controls) design for Aerospace and/or Marine and/or Renewables and/or Automotive and/or Mining and/or similar industries, OR JD/PhD Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly. To be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen Preferred Requirements: Significant experience in designing electromagnetic and machine integration with propulsion systems that include some of the following: inverters, energy storage devices, drives and propulsion motors as envisioned on Turbo-electric and Hybrid Electric propulsion system. Experience with customer interactions that facilitate trade studies, system architectures as applicable to electromagnetic and machine integration for All-electric, Turbo-electric and Hybrid Electric propulsion system. Design and manufacturing experience with high speed, high power, high voltage and/or high torque density permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) architectures Experience with multi-level electromagnetic and machine integration strategy/algorithms such vector control, flux weakening, and torque/speed control applicable to All-electric, Turbo-electric and Hybrid Electric propulsion system Experience with the use of electromagnetic design tools such as ANSYS products (MotorCad, Electronics Desktop (Maxwell 2D/3D) software packages Experience with aerospace certification & qualification standards and their application for power electronics highly desirable, including but not limited to standards such as RTCA / DO (Aerospace) and applicable Mil-STDs, with basic knowledge of US Export Control regulations for electromagnetic design technologies.
