BESCHREIBUNG

Come build the future of Linux at Amazon with the Amazon Linux Team!

If you are an experienced software developer who is passionate about building the platform to support the world’s premier cloud computing environment, then this is the job for you.

The Amazon Linux team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all of Amazon's core compute platforms, with a special focus on EC2, the Elastic Compute Cloud that is the basis for much of Amazon Web Services (AWS). We're also responsible for tools associated with the performance characterization, qualification, build and deployment of our Linux platforms.

Software Development Engineers work with technical leaders to refine technical direction, and then follow through with detailed analysis, designs, and superior code. They are equally comfortable leading small, focused project teams as well as making major direct contributions to the project. They deliver features with minimal direct oversight.

The baseline individual for this role will be entirely comfortable with the Linux operating system and programming languages such as Python, Bash, Javascript and/or Typescript in a Linux environment. Experience with Linux package management, version control systems, automated build processes, and software automated testing are a must. Another must is experience in managing and provisioning of infrastructure through code. An understanding of and experience in contributing to open source projects is a plus.

This team creates the very core of the cloud, and is directly responsible for radically changing and improving the way that people use computers - come help us make history!

Inclusive Team Culture: Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Work/Life Balance: Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.

Mentorship & Career Growth: Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. Our team has a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior engineers truly enjoy mentoring more junior engineers and engineers from non-traditional backgrounds through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth. We try to assign projects and tasks based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Key job responsibilities
You will write, read, review and iterate over narrative documents for planning and technical designs. You might be asked to join scheduled or ad-hoc communication for whatever idea or issue is being worked on. After all, you are key influencer on technical strategy and you will heavily weigh in on technical direction of the architecture around you.

You will write code that implements the technical concepts that you strategized and reviewed. You will also lead other engineers around you to contribute to your implementation.

A few times a week you will have 1:1 meetings with other leaders in the organization, initially for your own mentoring and learning, and later to discuss current and future projects.

A day in the life
You enjoy our flexible work schedule and start working at a time in the morning that aligns best with your private situation. We have a tram stop directly in front of our office building, alternatively a private car park or our spacious bike locking room with separate showers.

For lunch, people often go out in groups, or meet in our winter garden or up on the roof terrace. The occasional coffee chat or water-cooler talk keeps you connected to neighboring teams.

If its Friday you will either give or attend a technical talk and enjoy some pizza or barbecue after.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Dresden, DEU

BEVORZUGTE QUALIFIKATIONEN

- Experience working with the open source community, including upstream contributions.
- Experience with distributed systems architecture and related technologies.
- Experience in designing experiments and analysis of results with statistical relevance.

Amazon is an equal opportunities employer. We believe passionately that employing a diverse workforce is central to our success. We make recruiting decisions based on your experience and skills. We value your passion to discover, invent, simplify and build. Protecting your privacy and the security of your data is a longstanding top priority for Amazon. Please consult our Privacy Notice (https://www.amazon.jobs/en/privacy_page) to know more about how we collect, use and transfer the personal data of our candidates.
