Date: May 28, 2021 City: Karlsruhe, DE, 76131 Company: SAP Requisition ID: 271390Work Area: Software-ResearchLocation: KarlsruheExpected Travel: 0 - 10%Career Status: StudentEmployment Type: Limited Full Time COMPANY DESCRIPTION SAP started in 1972 as a team of five colleagues with a desire to do something new. Together, they changed enterprise software and reinvented how business was done. Today, as a market leader in enterprise application software, we remain true to our roots. That’s why we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures. SAP values the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering creativity and building lasting relationships with our employees. We know that a diverse and inclusive workforce keeps us competitive and provides opportunities for all. We believe that together we can transform industries, grow economics, lift up societies and sustain our environment. Because it’s the best-run businesses that make the world run better and improve people’s lives. ABOUT THE TEAM SAP Security Research identifies and solves research problems relating to software and operational security, and shares its insights with others, particularly product groups at SAP, to drive advances in security and privacy. The group stays at the forefront of security research by tracking trends in security, and by co-innovating through collaborative research with leading universities, partners, and SAP product groups. SAP Security Research’s objective is to understand new basic principles in research around Anonymization, Machine Learning, Applied Cryptography and Quantum Computing. We analyze the business value for SAP, refine the method and adapt them for SAP. By building prototypes and blueprints for productization, we support the SAP development teams to consume the research results. We are a young and dynamic team of post-doctoral researchers and PhD Students striving for new ways to protect enterprise systems. As such, we can support you during your internship on academic as well as hands-on architectural questions. THE ROLE In this Internship/Thesis, we want to offer you the opportunity to work on computation on encrypted data. We will focus on private function evaluation that consists of a server with a private function F and a client with a private input x. The goal of the computation is to reveal F(x) to the client and nothing to the server. Fully homomorphic encryption allows to compute on encrypted data without decrypting it and is therefore suitable to outsource computation on sensitive data to an untrusted cloud server. We are developing a protocol that allows a server to run a private program on private client data. The client encrypts its input under its public key using fully homomorphic encryption. The server performs the computation on the encrypted client's input without the help of the client and without learning anything from the computation. Finally, the server sends back an encrypted result that only the client can decrypt. The goal of the internship is to contribute to the implementation of the protocol and its applications. Strong Knowledge on Algorithms and Cryptography as well as good C/C++ programming skills are essential for a successful completion of the internship. ROLE REQUIREMENTS Student (f/m) at a university or a university of applied sciences Preferred fields of study: Informatics/Mathematics or similar field of study Computer skills: Proficiency in software development Programming: Good programming skills in Java, C/C++, Python Language skills: Fluency in German or English Soft skills: Ability to communicate accurately and proactively, and to present results Others: Affinity in Security and strong knowledge in Algorithms and Cryptography is a must Your set of application documents should contain a cover letter, a resume in table form, school leaving certificates, certificate of enrollment, current university transcript of records, copies of any academic degrees already earned, and if available, references from former employers (including internships).
