Around 4 billion people have no access to electricity or modern cooking technologies. This has a dramatic impact on quality of life, environment, health, education and income opportunities. Energising Development (EnDev) is a multi-donor partnership, currently financed by the governments of Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. In aligning itself with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the goals of the Paris Agreement, EnDev promotes sustainable access to modern energy services for households, social institutions and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). EnDev aims to achieve sustainable access to modern energy for more than 30 million people by 2025.
One solution to address the global cooking energy challenge is shifting to electric cooking (eCooking), for households and institutions already having access to electricity. There is a window of opportunity with promising framework conditions. EnDev commits to supporting the transition to higher-tier cooking and in particular to electric cooking (or eCooking). Jointly with international partners, EnDev introduced the Global eCooking Coalition (GeCCo) at the Africa Climate Summit/Week 2023.
Furthermore, EnDev is raising its ambition level in terms of promoting gender equality and supporting women’s self-empowerment as part of its gender goal in line with its gender strategy. In terms of the gender strategy, EnDev is striving to deepen gender integration within its structures by implementing gender action plans across its portfolio, along with providing trainings and additional activities.
