    Your Role and Responsibilities

    Join our talented designers to create new generation user interfaces and interactive prototypes for modern enterprise software. Discover and improve your skills in an agile development environment and learn about AI and machine learning and apply Enterprise Design Thinking in your daily work to collaborate effectively with different stakeholders. Your internship has a focus either in UX Design, Visual Design, Design Research or Front-End Development. You are part of an international product team, that will help you to grow your skills and expertise further and you will also gain insights in other design disciplines.
     
    UX design
    User experience designers create human-centered experiences by designing the structural and informational foundation for products and systems. They facilitate the delivery of all elements, interactions, and decisions that add value to the total user experience.
    - Learning about the industry and domain for your project's subject matter, and identifying the key users you'll be designing for
    - Conducting research to learn more about your user and their biggest pain points
    - Investigating the user's problems and creating simple, intuitive solutions
    - Testing and validating the usability of your team's designs
    - Synthesizing real user feedback and figuring out how to work it back into your designs
    - Communicating your concepts and ideas via storytelling
    - Continually engaging with project stakeholders to design experiences that stay true to the business's needs
    - Taking your concepts from low-fidelity sketches to high-fidelity mock-ups
    - Designing the interaction patterns between functions/information and users/customers

    Visual/UI design
    Visual designers communicate intent and meaning through visual experiences to incite understanding and action from people. They translate functions and information into emotionally compelling and desirable experiences.
    - Translating structural information into visual forms that make information compelling, easier to understand, and actionable
    - Communicating through nuanced use of color, tone, layout, composition, imagery, typography, interactions, and motion
    - Applying the IBM design system and unifying all visual elements as part of one experience and one IBM brand philosophy to tell a consistent and compelling narrative
    - Designing for accessibility
    - Making ideas come to life through imagery and visual representations of concepts at various levels of fidelity

    Design Research
    Design researchers uncover insights, inform design decisions, and forge new opportunities to improve business outcomes through the rigorous study of people and the ecosystems in which they exist. They continuously build team understanding and empathy through empirical observation, experience, and making.
    - Identifying and communicating high priority questions and opportunities for research to lead team towards strategic opportunities and tactical improvements
    - Identifying and communicating appropriate research methodology to address research opportunity
    - Supporting recruiting of appropriate participants for research plans and goals
    - Conducting research methods and activities to capture qualitative and quantitative data
    - Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to generate insights
    - Delivering compelling stories to communicate actionable insights for team and stakeholders

    Front-End Development
    Front-End developers are the backbone of our strategic initiatives to design, code, test, and provide industry-leading solutions that make the world run today. Whether you are working on projects internally or for a product team, you tanslate requirements into the design and development of systems in an agile environment. You iterate with designers on concepts by coding interactive prototypes.
    - Develop coded prototypes for the applications user interface.
    - Translate graphic visual and interactive designs into the presentation layer for highly interactive web applications using responsive design, motions and development techniques
    - Work closely with designers to take wireframes from conception to implementation and design and improve user interfaces
    - Work with the IBM Design System to implement UIs
    - Work in JavaScript, Node.js or frameworks such as React, Vue or Angular
    - Are skilled in UI Development technologies such as HTML, CSS and JSON
    - Have an interest in, understanding of, or experience with Design Thinking and agile development methodology

    Required Technical and Professional Expertise
    - Working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
    - Knowledge of industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite & Sketch
    - Working understanding of capabilities and limitations of web technologies including: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.
    - Familiarity with design systems
    - Have an interest in, understanding of, or experience with Design Thinking and agile development methodology
    - Front-End Development: Basic knowledge in one or more of the following technology areas: HTML, CSS, UI Development, JavaScript, Node.js React, Vue, Angular
    - Design Research: Experience with conducting primary and secondary research and with research tools (e.g. UserZoom, survey tooling, Usertesting.com, Optimal Workshop, etc.)
