We, the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, are a systems institute. We work on and coordinate research topics relevant to traffic engineering on new vehicle concepts and vehicle technologies. The research field "Vehicle Systems and Technology Assessment" offers a thesis that aims at the software-supported representation of and interaction with technology developments. Technologies develop in parallel, but are influenced by each other and by overarching trends. In an interactive roadmap, 1) the temporal visualisation of technology developments and 2) possible dependencies shall be displayed. For this purpose, you will develop a tool that accesses information on technologies from a database and visualises them dynamically.

Your tasks are in detail:

  • research of the visualization possibilities of technology roadmaps as well as the approaches of similar tools (tkbw.de, itonics-innovation.de/roadmap, atlassian.com/de/software/jira etc.)
  • conception of different visualization possibilities on the basis of a research, which information in which representation format is helpful for the technology foresight
  • conducting a workshop based on the visualization concepts to analyze the requirements for the tool (including automated export of the roadmap in common image formats, various filter functions)
  • implementation or programming of the interactive, dynamic visualization in JavaScript
  • state-of-the-art documentation of the software work (GitLab)
  • demonstration of the proof-of-concept (tbd; e.g. implementation with Oracle APEX on Oracle XE) based on an exemplary technology selection (content information is already available)
  • possibility to contribute to accompanying scientific publications
  • possibility of a supplementary HiWi employment
