Patent Counsel Global IP (m/f/d)

Our Service Unit Global Intellectual Property is one of the biggest inhouse IP units in Germany. We are responsible for all services relating to patents, trademarks, trade secrets, plant variety protection, copyrights, designs and IP Intelligence, as well as all IP-contracts. We are a global team servicing the entire BASF group and work in close alliance with the operating business units as well as with the research and technology platforms. In this way we create a basis for future business success and actively influence BASF's competitive situation.

Our team IP Care Chemicals is taking care of all aspects of Intellectual Property of BASF’s Care Chemicals Division, a globally leading supplier to the cosmetics, detergents and cleaner industries.

• You prepare patent applications, supervise their granting procedures and are in contact with inventors from research, development, and marketing.
• You collaborate with inventors, IP management, marketing, and R&D departments to provide expert advice on invention harvesting, freedom-to-operate, infringement scouting and other IP-related topics.
• Also, you conduct target-group adjusted trainings for employees from various departments, furthering their awareness and understanding regards IP matters.
• You work closely with our Care Chemicals division to shape its IP strategy according to business objectives and market trends.
• In addition, you negotiate collaboration and license agreements.
• As a key member of interdisciplinary M&A teams you take care of the IP matters.
• Finally, you provide expert advice on know-how and trade secret matters, in order to identify and protect such proprietary information.

• degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, or process engineering
• (almost) completed training as European or German Patent Attorney
• ideally experience in drafting and negotiating IP related agreements
• excellent communication skills in English and German
• openness, commitment, and enthusiasm for new and exciting challenges
