With the storage ring PETRA Ill and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community. PETRA Ill, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, currently provides 20 undulator beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. The High-throughput Macromolecular Crystallography Beamline P11 provides extremely high flux densities allowing for fast 3D structure determination of biological samples. We are seeking a highly motivated scientists to enhance our Macromolecular Crystallography research team at this state-of-the-art beamline.

About your role:

  • User support and commissioning work at P11, especially with focus on scientific computing and user data handling
  • Develop and pursue own independent research projects in the field of Macromolecular Crystallography or carry out defined project work in collaboration with an industrial partner
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team in very close collaboration with the user community

Limited: 3 years

About you:

  • PhD in biochemistry, chemistry or a related field
  • Background in X-ray crystallography and protein structure determination using synchrotron radiation
  • Working experience with protein crystallography experiments
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation of protein crystallography beamlines and related software
  • Teamwork abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Programming skills are considered an advantage
