With the storage ring PETRA III and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community. PETRA III, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, currently provides 26 insertion device beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. For the in-situ diffraction beamline (P23) we are seeking a scientist for the user operation support and strengthen our research program in the field of epitaxial thin films or nanostructures on surfaces.
- Support external and internal user groups during experiments
- Operate and further develop equipment for in-situ experiments
- Support user groups planning to use the new equipment at the beamline
- Development of own independent research program on epitaxial thin films or nanostructures on surfaces at the beamline and participation in collaborative projects with internal and external groups

Limited: 3 years
- PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or related fields
- Knowledge and experience of pulsed laser deposition and/or chemical vapour deposition techniques is considered an asset
- Good experimental skills and strong interest in instrumentation development
- Hands-on experience with X-ray scattering techniques, preferably using synchrotron radiation
- Programming skills, especially in Python, will be an asset
- Excellent English and team working skills
