The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Cameroon, CPS contributes to nonviolent conflict transformation, violence prevention, and strengthening social cohesion. CPS supports civil society partners in their collective goal-oriented commitment to non-violent conflict transformation, the improvement of social relations through dialogue, and the practice of democratic participation of young people. The primary workplace will be split between the GIZ office in Douala and the partner organization doual’art (part-time).
- Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the GIZ CPS Cameroon program in the area of dialogue by supporting dialogue-related components of partner organizations’ projects and co-developing joint initiatives with a network of partners, these initiatives will focus on youth civic engagement and gender inclusion in peacebuilding processes
- Develop the capacities of the CPS team, partner organisations and their target groups on dialogue through further developing and integrating the existing “School of Dialogue” initiative into dialogue trainings and processes
- Co-conceptualize the use of creative approaches and artistic expression into dialogical approaches and processes learning from the experiences of the partner organization doual’art and the youth they work alongside, and integrate these approaches into the CPS program more broadly
- Co-assess the organizational development needs of the partner organization doual’art and co-develop responses to be implemented
- Coordinate closely with CPS focal point and partner organizations in the Southwest region to work on dialogue initiatives focusing on dealing with the past and the importance of historical narratives on present-day conflict dynamics, inter-ethnic and generational conflicts, and youth engagement and sociopolitical participation
- Contribute to the monitoring of outcomes’ achievement together with partner organisation(s) and the CPS team fostering reflection on improvement of approaches and methodological tools
- Support the integration of conflict sensitivity, human rights-based approach and a gender perspective in all project’s measures
- Document learning experiences, lessons learnt and good practices for proactive commitment in knowledge management among the CPS team, the CPS partners’ network in Cameroon, CPS of GIZ, the CPS consortium and the GIZ NICD network
- Master’s degree in social or political sciences, peace and conflict studies, pedagogics, arts and humanities, or any other relevant domain
- Several years of expertise and practical experience in the areas of peacebuilding, dialogue, and conflict analysis and transformation
- Experience using the arts and culture for social transformation processes, and experience working with youth
- Professional experience in fragile contexts and work experience in Africa; knowledge about Cameroon is an added value
- Experience working with civil society organisations, partner-oriented work skills and strong reflective advisory competencies
- Patience, flexibility, autonomy and high frustration tolerance are needed
- Proven ability to work in a multicultural team and sensitivity to questions as racism and colonial legacies
- Business fluent in French and English
