Summary:
The CNC Machinist – Programmer has experience with computer numerical control (CNC) machinery, programming, setup, and operation to produce high-quality precision parts. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprint reading, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet production goals.
Responsibilities:
- Program, set up, and operate CNC machines such as mills and lathes to manufacture parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Create and modify CNC programs using G-code, CAM software (such as AutoDesk inventor, or similar), and manual input as needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job and ensure proper setup of machines.
- Monitor machine operation, make necessary adjustments, and troubleshoot issues to maintain product quality and efficiency.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure parts meet tolerances.
- Document work performed, maintain accurate records, and follow established quality control procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and keep work area clean and organized.
- Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and quality control to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certificate or associate degree in machining/manufacturing preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in CNC machining and programming (manual and CAM-based).
- Proficiency in G-code programming and experience with CAD/CAM software.
- Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and a commitment to safety and quality.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for operating machinery and inspecting parts.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
