    The newly founded institute researches and develops innovative solutions for decarbonization and emission reduction in shipping and transfers them into practice by cooperation with industry. The institute is building a large-scale infrastructure to test and trial the new energy systems to be developed in a standardized laboratory environment as well as under real conditions on a research vessel. A subdivision of the institute into four departments serves to achieve the goals. The department Virtual Ship researches and develops methods and technologies for the virtual representation of maritime energy and converter systems and infrastructure. We need support in a Maritime Energy Systems digital ship twin project.   

    Your tasks in the project include:

    • You will conduct ongoing literature research on existing methods.
    • You will select scientific methods and tools on this basis
    • You develop data management components for the digital twin
    • You will perform the design and selection of processes that ensure effective information management throughout the lifecycle of ships within the digital twin computer model
    • You will design, select and implement the software and hardware infrastructure on-board and on-shore for the development of digital twins
    • You will design, select and implement the acquisition, aggregation, processing, visualization and storage of measurement data
    • You will design, select and program the software required for this purpose
    • You plan the work and procedures and carry them out
    • You evaluate the research results scientifically and publish them
    • You use the research results for the preparation of patents and new procedures in the approval of ships
    • You use the research results for planning new research projects
    • You supervise students (interns, bachelor, master) in connection with the research topic
    • You take care of the acquisition of third-party funding
    • If you are successful in obtaining external funding, you will have the opportunity to take over project management in consultation with the head of department.

    • Completed scientific degree (diploma/master's degree) in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding or in another field of study relevant to the research topic.
    • Knowledge of server/cloud architecture
    • Knowledge of database management systems
    • Knowledge in data aggregation and analysis
    • Knowledge of time series data management
    • Knowledge of programming, preferably in Python, C++
    • Knowledge of product data management/product lifecycle management
    • Knowledge of data collection systems
    • extensive knowledge of English
    • Several years of professional experience and knowledge in the construction and design of DC voltage systems is desirable
