    Senior Ethics & Compliance Specialist

    The Ethics and Compliance Department is a dynamic team that functions cohesively to ensure that BIOTRONIK conforms to its values of ethical business practices. The Senior Ethics and Compliance Specialist will drive activities associated with the management and continuous improvement of BIOTRONIK Inc.’s Ethics and Compliance program. This involves ensuring compliance to BIOTRONIK’s Code of Business Conduct, other applicable regulations and associated regulatory and ethical concerns. The Senior Ethics and Compliance Specialist will operate in a multi-disciplinary and interdepartmental capacity, with the ability to significantly affect company policies and practices. The Senior Ethics & Compliance Specialist is a subject matter expert, recognized and relied upon throughout the company, in various elements of the Ethics & Compliance program, and will have the ability to influence strategic decisions in important ways. The Senior Ethics & Compliance Specialist will be expected to mentor and assist less experienced compliance department personnel.

    Your Responsibilities

    • Drive the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of effective ethics & compliance projects.
    • Respond to day-to-day ethics and compliance questions based on current policies and procedures.
    • Anticipate and/or identify areas of risk for the company and proactively identify steps for remediation.
    • Drive BIOTRONIK’s compliance with the Physician Payment Sunshine Act and any applicable state or foreign transparency regulations.
    • In cooperation with other departments, plan, develop and draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support BIOTRONIK Inc.’s Ethics & Compliance Program. Engage with BIOTRONIK Inc. personnel to help implement the SOPs.
    • Assist Ethics & Compliance Management with training, education and communication campaigns designed to support BIOTRONIK Inc.’s culture of ethics & compliance.
    • Regularly report to senior company management regarding Ethics & Compliance concerns.
    • Lead ethics & compliance trainings, to both in-house and field force staff, as required.
    • Participate in compliance investigations at the direction of Ethics & Compliance Management, including identifying violations of BIOTRONIK policies and procedures and addressing corrective actions.
    • Lead interdepartmental initiatives and task forces.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Your Profile

    • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Relevant fields are preferred, but will consider all majors.
    • At least 5 years of experience in the ethics & compliance sphere, either in an in-house compliance department, law firm, consulting practice, or other relevant setting, is required.
    • Knowledge and understanding of applicable regulations, recent enforcement actions and trends (e.g. Corporate Integrity Agreements in the life science industry), and ethics & compliance best practices including:
      • AdvaMed Code of Ethics,
      • Anti-Kickback Statute
      • False Claims Act
      • Physician Payments Sunshine Act
    • Experience conducting investigations, determining root cause, and driving corrective actions.
    • Strong analytical and decision making skills. Ability to absorb and analyze large amounts of information and make decisions by weighing evidence, alternatives, risks, etc. Data analysis and audit experience is a plus.
    • Ability to apply project management and change management techniques to internal projects.
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with high-level management, to influence others without authority when necessary, and to conduct contentious and critical investigative interviews.
    • Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team and mentor other team members.
    • Ability to work independently, with no day-to-day supervision.
    • Capacity to serve as a team leader and meet ambitious project milestones and objectives.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficient PC application skills, including knowledge of MS Excel, email systems, etc. Experience with enterprise systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Concur, Salesforce) or business intelligence/data analysis tools is a plus.
    • Unimpeachable integrity/ethics

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Experience operating in the medical device, life science, or healthcare industry.
    • Advanced degree (e.g. JD, MBA, Master’s degree) and/or certification (e.g. CCEP, PMP) are a plus.

    Travel

    Limited travel is required, usually less than twenty percent per year
