Job description

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a global programme working on the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Iraq the CPS project advises governmental and non-governmental institutions and organisations on addressing injustice, providing psychosocial support and securing peace. CPS specialists also support minorities affected by IS crimes through training sessions, technical advice, and networking with national and international stakeholders. In the field of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, CPS supports the master’s programme of the Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology (IPP) at the University of Duhok and strengthens psychotherapeutic interventions through training and networking with local organisations.

Your tasks
  • Supporting the master’s programme at the IPP at the University of Duhok and related activities
  • Identifying the needs of governmental institutions and civil society organisations that accompany traumatised communities; networking and exchange with the IPP; possibly designing further training measures together with IPP lecturers in the field of systemic therapy
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of conferences and seminars (including fundraising, documentation and reporting to donors)
  • Accompanying practice-based research by IPP students, graduates, and lecturers together with external local and international researchers
Your profile
  • Graduate (Master level or equivalent) in psychology
  • Substantial experience in transcultural psychosocial work, ideally with communities that have experienced massive violence
  • Experience in planning and implementing practice-oriented research, training and producing relevant materials
  • Work-related experience abroad, ideally in West Asia, as well as knowledge of the history, culture, and political situation of Iraq
  • Strong ability to motivate people, team orientation and high level of communication as well as facilitation skills
  • Fluency in English, working knowledge in Arabic, Kurdish, or German is an asset
Location information

The security situation is very tense. Tailored Security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Freedom of movement is strongly restricted. It is not possible for life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.

GIZ's Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience. In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.

Willingness to travel on a regular basis is required.
