Job description

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a global programme supporting local partners in promoting dialogue, human rights, and peace in conflict regions. In Uganda, the GIZ-CPS focuses on preventing and transforming land conflicts, working with 12 Interest Groups in Acholi, Karamoja, Teso, and one partner in Kampala. These networks involve around 100 civil society organizations, aiming to strengthen coordination and improve land conflict resolution and land rights protection. LANDnet Uganda, founded in 2012, is a key CPS partner focused on research, capacity development, and policy advocacy in land, gender, agriculture, and natural resource management. The organization plays a significant role in promoting land governance and empowering individuals, leaders, and communities in Uganda.

Your tasks
  • Provide technical and advisory input in planning and implementing LANDnet activities such as trainings, dialogues, community engagements, and research initiatives under conflict sensitive approaches
  • Contribute to the mainstreaming of conflict sensitivity across LANDnet programming and support capacity building of staff and partners in related approaches
  • Scale up conflict-sensitive land governance work to the national level through the consultations with stakeholders such as government bodies, civil society organizations, and local communities
  • Support the development and review of concept notes, project proposals, and activity budgets in close coordination with LANDnet’s technical and finance teams
  • Strengthen internal knowledge management through documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and technical reports
  • Provide advisory support in monitoring and evaluation, including tool and framework development
  • Contribute to financial resource mobilization efforts by identifying opportunities and supporting high-quality proposal development
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between LANDnet Uganda and the GIZ Civil Peace Service (CPS) program, ensuring alignment of priorities, joint planning, and compliance with GIZ/CPS administrative and reporting requirements
Your profile
  • University degree in peace and conflict studies, social sciences, political science, human rights or a related field
  • Proven experience in planning and implementing peacebuilding activities in the field of land-rights, preferably in East Africa
  • Strong knowledge of conflict sensitivity and experience in mainstreaming it across programme
  • Skilled in coordinating stakeholder engagements with government bodies, civil society organizations, and local communities
  • Experience in developing and reviewing project proposals, concept notes, and activity budgets in collaboration with technical and finance teams
  • Competence in knowledge management, including documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and technical reports
  • Advisory experience in designing and applying monitoring and evaluation tools and frameworks
  • Business fluent English skills required, German language skills would be an advantage
Location information

Kampala has international schools and nurseries, making it an ideal location for families. The climate is moderate and pleasant. Most everyday necessities can be found in Kampala. Basic medical care is ensured, with German-speaking pediatricians, gynecologists, and general practitioners available.

The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. In some cases, there may be restrictions on freedom of movement that are specific to the environment in which the work is carried out. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. Please note that the general and personal living conditions in the country of assignment may meet with different legal and social acceptance. We gladly support you with our many years of experience.

At the site of operation, the particulate pollution occurs to be many time higher than the European acceptable limit. As part of the selection process and during the recruitment examination you will be informed of appropriate protective and behavioral measures.

Willingness to travel on a regular basis is required.
