Summary:
The Operation Manager of Repair & Refurbishment is a strategic leader responsible for transforming and scaling repair operations for fiber system and paper machine equipment. This role drives business growth, operational excellence, and automation, acting as a catalyst for innovation and digital transformation. The position is focused on leading change, developing high-performing teams, and implementing advanced technologies to deliver superior results across Voith’s repair facilities and customer sites.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Strategic Transformation
Drive automation, digitalization, and process innovation to enhance repair operations and expand capabilities, offerings, and facilities.
- Build and Empower Teams
Develop high-performing shopfloor and leadership teams, fostering accountability, adaptability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Communicate Vision and Drive Change
Clearly articulate goals and initiatives, recognize achievements, and promote skill development while addressing performance constructively.
- Ensure Compliance and Quality
Oversee OSHA, environmental, and company standards; integrate automated safety, compliance, and quality monitoring systems.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally
Partner with Sales, Product Management, Mill/Field Service, and Customers to resolve challenges and keep jobs moving efficiently. - Optimize Operations and KPIs
Review costs and processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure departments meet key metrics (On-Time Turnaround Rate, Gross Margin).
- Champion Technology Adoption
Identify and implement automation solutions (robotics, digital tools, analytics) to streamline workflows and reduce manual intervention.
- Customer and Repair Coordination
Manage repair activities, warranty issues, and onsite personnel to align with strategic goals and customer expectations.
- Drive Growth
Execute strategies to significantly grow the repair business through expanded capabilities and facilities.
- Travel as Required
Ability to travel up to 35%.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven experience in leading operational transformation and business growth.
- Demonstrated ability to drive change, implement automation, and lead digital initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of cross-functional leadership.
Education and Experience:
- Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree preferred, experience in the paper industry highly valued.
- Knowledge of mill equipment, repair processes, and quality assurance preferred.
- Background in automation, robotics, and digitalization in manufacturing or repair environments preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated leadership in driving transformation and automation initiatives within manufacturing or repair environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent talking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling/squatting, keyboard use.
- Occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs, climbing, reaching, rotation/twisting.
- Occasional exposure to noise up to 100 dBA.
